Portsmouth is a port city in the traditional county of Hampshire on the south coast of England. It is the only city in the British Isles with a greater population density than London. The city has several mainline railway stations connecting to London Waterloo and its International Port is a commercial cruise ship and ferry port for international destinations. The city forms part of the South Hampshire built-up area and has history traced back to Roman times.
Portsmouth is one of the world's best known ports and is home to some famous ships. HMNB Portsmouth is the largest dockyard for the Royal Navy . It has two cathedrals in including the Anglican Cathedral of St Thomas and the Roman Catholic Cathedral of St John the Evangelist. Portsmouth F.C. is the city's professional association football club.
